VegNET Tasmania is a Hort Innovation project funded via vegetable grower levies and support from the Australian Government. As in previous years, it remains focussed on helping vegetable growers to use R&D outputs in their business. The aim remains to support profitability, sustainability and productivity in the Tasmanian industry.

Effective extension is a two-way street; it is at its best when design and implementation of best known practice in agricultural production is a collaborative process. We all work together, at every level, to push the industry forward.

This is the idea behind VegNET 2, the next iteration of the nation-wide VegNET project. Using increased and targeted collaboration and conversations with industry, the project will develop and implement a five-year extension strategy with the vegetable industry. This will be a flexible and dynamic process. It is something of a pilot approach for horticultural industries. Included in the project is training for Regional Development Officers (RDOs) to develop their skills and abilities in the design and delivery of the strategy.

The delivery format is part of Hort Innovation’s New Extension Initiative. The VegNET RDOs will be working with newly appointed Regional Extension Managers for all of horticulture.

VegNET 2 in Tasmania will be brought to you by RM Consulting Group, as it has from the commencement of VegNET. RDO Ossie Lang is keen to hear from industry, either over the phone or via email ossiel@rmcg.com.au
